So many beaches so little time

the weather, my high level of ADD, and my day job which involves sitting in front of a computer have all caused me to take a blogging hiatus. my cousin, rachel, is super handy with a camera and took these pictures while i was half-aware in coal harbour over the weekend.

my boots are mens boots from aldo, my dress is from american apparel, everything else is from value village more or less.

i have been listening to the song "Broke" by modest mouse so much lately it's kind of obsessive

Inspiration

Edie Sedgwick in Andy Warhol's Factory
Why I like it: Basic black pants, basic white tee, hardcore make-up, statement metal earrings

Elin Kling in sleek black: super tight black skinnies, black ankle boots, oversized mens sweater

www.stylebykling.nowmanifest.com (if you haven't been- go right now!)

my wrist- all metal at the capital hill block party.

right now the look that i am liking is a really basic outfit with a lot of metal accents. i am wearing a lot of black!, skinny (tight) fitting pants and baggy, basic tops, and pairing that with TONS of metal jewelry. i also like wearing a basic dress with no necklace and a lot of wrist jewelry and earrings.

Capital Hill Block Party 2012

denim on denim- ooooohhh yeah!!!
My outfit: leather converse, vintage purse, vintage jacket, vintage shirt, sunglasses: american apparel

i spent last weekend at the capital hill block party-aka hipster's paradise-in seattle, washington-hence the blogging hiatus. BEST WEEKEND EVER!!! i have been pretty bummed the last few weeks that i will not be attending osheaga this year in montreal-but after this weekend i am totally ok with it! i try to go to a least one music festival every summer, and usually ones that i have never been to before- block party was amazing! if you haven't heard of it- google now-and go next year!

also, while you are searching the internet looking at the block party pictures hating your life you should download the following songs that i heard this weekend:

"Oblivion" by Grimes
"Five Seconds" by Twin Shadows
"Mouthful of Diamonds" by Phantogram
"People Got A Lot of Nerve" by Neko Case
"Stay Useless" by Cloud Nothings

Inspiration of the Day

Photo I took of one of my all-time favourite pieces of pop art from the MOMA in NYC

Photo I took of Jackson Pollock from the MET in NYC

Photo I took of Mark Rothko from the MET in NYC

I have been thinking a lot about all of the amazing art museums that I was lucky enough to visit last summer/fall when I spent the summer on the east coast. These are three paintings that have been really stuck in my mind lately. I would really like to buy some red right now so I can have a pop of colour like in this Mark Rothko painting. I love how simplistic it is- it makes me want to be simple like that in my outfits. I haven't picked up a paint brush in almost three years for a number of reasons.. Lately I have been feeling very creative, so maybe it is time... Until then I have other people's artwork to enjoy:) Hope everyone is having a nice week :)

Photo of the Day

i took this picture at a train station in bruges, belgium

What I Wore

i wore this outfit a few months ago to a tea party with my girlfriends. i got this dress from a really cool h&m/forever21/topshop type of store that i've only ever come across in quebec called simmons. i really like these types of floral dresses because you can wear them in the winter with black accessories or in the summer with a pair of ballerina flats or sandals. i got this leather belt from value village on east hastings street- second hand stores are the best places to find cheap leather!

Beach Day

Shirt: thrift, shorts: fidelity jeans i cut into shorts, backpack: american apparel, hat: toronto blue jays

it has been super hot this week in vancouver and i have been taking full advantage by going to the beach whenever i can. i live a five minute walk from a few different beaches as i am located in the west end so life is pretty good! i got this crop tank for $5 from community thrift & vintage in gas town. if you have not been to this store and you are from vancouver: GO! every time i am in that store i find amazing stuff! for super cheap!! i like the colours in this hat a lot as white looks so good in the sun and it's easy to match with jeans and a white tank.

Lazy Days

Yesterday I had a particularly lazy morning. On days such as these, my brain is stuck on auto-pilot when choosing an outfit. I usually end-up in a uniform consisting of an oversized t-shirt, jeans (or jean shorts), and my favourite pair of worn in converse. Yesterday was no exception... In order to pull these kinds of outfits together I suggest adding some vintage or statement jewelry as seen in my picture. It is a great, no nonsense way to getting ready quickly and look très chic. Basic tees have the ability to make pieces like these "pop" and add a classy element which I like.

i bought this jean jacket in paris with the goal to alter it hardcore. finally the right leather sleeves literally fell into my possession and it was time to get rid of the 3/4 (awful) denim sleeves and style this baby up! my friend is a fashion designer and gladly made my idea come to life. as you can see from the picture she took when i first put this sucker on it was love at first sight. the morale of this story is: Always alter your clothes. and if you need a great seamstress in vancouver message mary anne: http://www.facebook.com/mary.anastasia
